Country merit | In order to achieve the Ministry of Public Works mandate and delivery its expected service delivery to the public, it is vital to provide the necessary capacity; qualified and skilled employees, system, policies and procedure to work with and working environments with crucial equipment and machineries. It is necessary to get the following; |
- Strengthen the capacity of the employees; management and professionals; engineers and high technicians through short workshops local and abroad and long term trainings in order to upgrade them
- Develop policy and legal frame works for the constructions sector; Engineering Standards and Best Practices
- Prepare programs and projects for the public constructions – assessments, planning and designing, supervision and control
- Provision of engineering software to prepare standard designs and bill of quantities
- Market surveys for the construction materials prices available in the local markets

Project DescriptionAccording to the Somali new deal, the Ministry of Public Works is a member of the PSG 4. In this regard, the Ministry is required to contribute to the building the economic foundation of the country. This project intends to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry to deliver the expected service to the public; peace building, institutional building and economic growth. The main aim is to provide the necessary capacity elements; strengthening the capacity of the human resources of the Ministry. This project is based on
Priority 1: Enhance the productivity of high priority sectors and related value chains, including through the rehabilitation and expansion of critical infrastructure for transport, markets access, trade, and energy.Objectives
- To strengthen the capacity of Ministry employees management, engineers and high technicians in Mogadishu and abroad through short workshops and long term training.
- To develop construction policies, systems and legal frameworks to regulate public construction

Project Description | The Ministry of Works mandate is to contribute construction and rehabilitation to the public and deliver social services. The most important focus is to create employment opportunities for the youth at risk and improve their economic well-being. |
Deliberate efforts are being made by the Ministry to give serious attention to these two areas, therefore, it decided to formulate this project which will encourage local initiatives in skill improvement. While the main vocational training facility will be located in Mogadishu, with subsequent establishment of similar facilities in other urban centers, the beneficiaries will be drawn from youth groups across the country and will reflect the diversity of background of Somali youth.Objectivesü Construct Vocational Training Centre of eleven sections in Mogadishu in 2015 and 2016
ü Promote cooperative and psychological development of the trainees through their access to recreation and skill development programs.

The main aim of this project is to construct fishery infrastructures; cold-storage, processing, packing and supply local market and for exportations. Also, the fishing infrastructures increase quality products which attract external clients.

Project Description | The Moga2020 City lab will be created to accelerate the development and implementation of the urban development agenda of Mogadishu. |
The lab is a focal point, the centre of knowledge on the development of the city (both its ‘hardware’ infrastructure, as well as its social and organisational infrastructure). The city lab supports the ministry, city administration and entrepreneurial citizens in their efforts to build up the city with a fresh start and fresh ideas.
The city lab initiates small and medium sized, innovative pilot activities (a ‘living lab’ for building human and organizational capacities) with the view that these develop in larger sustainable projects, or that these provide leverage for or have a multiplier effect on other (third party) investments. The projects contribute to strengthening the physical, social and economic infrastructure of neighbourhoods. Projects deal with issues such as a framework for urban, participatory planning, development of infrastructure (e.g. housing, roads, water, energy, waste disposal), facilitating economic development (e.g. business incubator; employment generation) and socio-cultural development (community facilities and socio-cultural activities), and safety measures (community vigilance).
The project will be implemented through local (young) professionals from the ministry, city administration and the university, supported by Somali young professionals from the diaspora in the Netherlands with back stopping from Dutch senior urban planning experts.Objectives

Project Description | According to the Somali new deal, the Ministry of Public Works and Reconstruction is a member of the PSG 4 – economic foundation. In this regard, the project is required to contribute to the building the economic foundation of the country. The Ministry main purpose to contribute the Macro Economic of the county through the rehabilitation economic infrastructures like canal rehabilitation |
The project is aiming excavation of Secondary canal of Golweyn – Janale which is the most agricultural areas that produce significant crops, vegetable and fruits. The diameter of the canal is 40 km long, three meters wide and two meters deep to allow abundant water to flow downwards to irrigate farms.
The excavation of the secondary canal of Golweyn and Janale would bring back physically powerful livelihood earning performance through the revival of the practice of the extensive farming crops, vegetable and fruits that would generate satisfactory sustainable of life within the range of the dugout canal. Other possible advantage expected would include workers in the harbour who will get job opportunities for backing up exported banana. Others might also be hired to work in the banana and other bigger fruit farm or engage in acquiring permission from people evacuated unattended farms either freely or through rental fee.
Beneficiaries:
- The project will be benefited by 18,000 households and will have access to irrigate water for their respective farms.
- Mogadishu residents of about 2.5 million will obtain plentiful edible crops, vegetables and fruits on lower prices in the local market
- The inhabitants of the districts of Golweyn and Merca and their attached villages like Jannale will have more ensured livelihood through the resumption of farming after the excavation of the canal.
- Many families living as IDPs in bigger districts evacuating their residential area earlier would start resettling quietly ensuring decent livelihoods through farming.
- The central government, regional and district authorities complaining of the burden of the IDPs occupying needed government installation for social services would be relieved
